The nation is under threat to be pulled into Total War as neighboring Israel looks to avenge the events of 10/7 and defeat the parties responsible - namely Iran-backed Hamas. Iran-backed Hezbollah operates within Lebanon; border skirmishes are common between Israel and Lebanon.
Regional Instability
The nation has an uneasy history with neighboring parties (namely Israel) and suffers from internal strife / divisions; armed groups such as Iran-backed Hezbollah operate within the country adding to instability and elevated tensions.
Iran Ally / Influence
The nation, or parties / forces within, is influenced by regional power Iran which can push the country into limited clashes or outright war with neighbors (namely Israel).
France Administration (Fmr)
The nation was administered by European power France following the partition of the Ottoman Empire at the close of World War I in 1918.
Lebanon War (2006)
The nation fought a war against Israel from July to August, 2006 to an inconclusive end. The conflict pitted Israel proper against various armed groups operating in Lebanon including Hezbollah.
Beirut Barracks Bombing (1983)
The nation was the site of a major suicide bombing attack on American and French forces assigned there as peacekeepers during the Lebanese Civil War. Total deaths numbered 307 including civilians with the bombing attributed to the Islamic Jihad Organization. The international peacekeeping force eventually left the country.
Lebanon War (1982-85)
The nation fought a war against Israel from June 1982 until June 1985 with inconclusive results. The war was the culmination of limited clashes between the two powers.
Civil War (1975-90)
The nation was subject to a bloody years-long civil war (Lebanese Civil War) pitting Christians and Muslims against one another. The war claimed some 150,000 casualties.
